Creating Safe Havens
Saving animals with safe shelter, care, and community support.
About Sweetpea F.O.R. Animals
Transforming lives, one paw at a time. We are building a no-kill animal shelter to support vulnerable animals, including older pets and those with medical or behavioral challenges. Help us bring this vision to life.
The generous support of our community has enabled us to fund ongoing operations while we return to operation after a devastating fire that destroyed our previous kennel.

Our history
A retired animal control officer for the town of Rutland, MA, Mr. Richard Clark identified the need for a true no-kill animal shelter in central Massachusetts. He founded Sweetpea Friends of Rutland Animals as a 501(c)3 non-profit in 2000. In 2015, Sweetpea F.O.R. Animals purchased an old dog boarding facility to be our new home, which included a kennel building and an administrative building on 3 acres of land. In November 2015, the kennel building was destroyed in a tragic fire.
Though slowed by the long insurance review and then by the COVID pandemic, we have made significant progress on a new shelter that will meet all the new MA regulations. We are grateful for the ongoing support of our local community and supporters around the country who keep us in operation while we complete the construction.
